Meets on Zoom on Friday, September 11th, 1:00-2:00pm Pacific Time.

Led by Lindsay Cooley, a Masters Student at UC Santa Cruz and the creator of the NorCal Regional Middle School Ethics Bowl. Co-hosted by Paradox Lab founder, Dr. Iris Oved.

In this one-session online discussion class, students will explore friendship across species. For many years people believed that animals of different species do not get along. Bears and tigers fight for territory and food, cats chase mice, polar bears eat smaller mammals, etc. However, with the invention of the internet, people all over the world have been sharing videos of strange animal relationships. Scientists believe these interactions appear to suggest that these animals have formed unlikely ‘friendships’ with one another. In some cases, these unusual companions are even considered ‘best friends!’ These scientists are currently hard at work investigating whether or not these animals are friends and how/why that is the case. But before they can determine if these animals are indeed friends, they need to understand exactly what ‘friendship’ is – and they need your help! Students will use an Inquiry Diagram (image shown) to map their ideas during the discussion.

Refund Policy: Full refund up to 48 hours prior to first session.

****Note: For this class to work, we must have at minimum 3 students enrolled. If this minimum is not reached by 48 hours prior to the first session, we will cancel and issue a full refund.
