Philosophy and AGI Salon (adults)
This is a monthly in-person salon that gathers curious adults (philosophers, psychologists, tech entrepreneurs, artists, educators, …) in San Francisco to discuss topics at the intersection of philosophy and artificial general intelligence. Questions include:
Do large language models (like GPT, Claude, DeepSeek) understand language? Are they as step toward AGI? Are they able to think about real-world objects, like cats and trees? If not, what are they missing?
Do embodied AIs (i.e., robots) have a better shot at thinking about things in the real world? Does this make them more intelligent?
How can we build AI that is more humanlike in its perception, learning, representations, values, and actions? Is this a good thing or a bad thing?
What is the relationship between consciousness and intelligence? What is the relationship between agency and intelligence? What is the relationship between having a mind and being intelligent?
Please contact Dr. Oved for information on the next salon!
