Philosophy and AGI Salon (adults)

This is a monthly in-person salon that gathers curious adults (philosophers, psychologists, tech entrepreneurs, artists, educators, …) in San Francisco to discuss topics at the intersection of philosophy and artificial general intelligence. Questions include:

  • Do large language models (like GPT, Claude, DeepSeek) understand language? Are they as step toward AGI? Are they able to think about real-world objects, like cats and trees? If not, what are they missing?

  • Do embodied AIs (i.e., robots) have a better shot at thinking about things in the real world? Does this make them more intelligent?

  • How can we build AI that is more humanlike in its perception, learning, representations, values, and actions? Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

  • What is the relationship between consciousness and intelligence? What is the relationship between agency and intelligence? What is the relationship between having a mind and being intelligent?

Please contact Dr. Oved for information on the next salon!
