Choice and Consequence (ages 9-12)
Pay What You Want! (This allows us to meet our accessibility and diversity goals.)
Age: 9-12
We will meet on Zoom on Wednesday, September 9th, 11:00am-12:30pm Pacific Time (2:00-3:30 Eastern).
Led by Emma Leeson, a primary school teacher in the UK who has been using the SAPERE Philosophy for Children method for the past 16 years. Co-hosted by Paradox Lab founder, Dr. Iris Oved.
In this 90-minute online discussion class, students will get an introduction to BIG Ideas and BIG Questions, and then there will be a student-led an enquiry about a short film on choices and consequences. BIG ideas and questions are central and common to all humans, — having to do with friendship, fairness, and hope. They are also provoke disagreement. Connecting these BIG ideas and questions to our own experiences is also vital in order to make them meaningful, so this session starts with students making connections to themselves and facilitates the opportunity to identify hidden BIG ideas within a short film stimulus, leading to some BIG questions. They will vote for a question that interests them and engage in a dialogue that further explores the question.
There are some participant resources which include some ‘postcard’ images, ground rules referring to the 4Cs of CARING, COLLABORATIVE, CREATIVE and CRITICAL thinking and some question prompts that will be referred to during the enquiry.
Refund Policy: Full refund up to 48 hours prior to first session.
****Note: For this class to work, we must have at minimum 3 students enrolled. If this minimum is not reached by 48 hours prior to the first session, we will cancel and issue a full refund.
